We have transitioned from sponge baths to full tub baths in our household. Everyone is enjoying this task more and more each time. Harrison received his first bath in the hospital the night he was born. Our nurse, Cathy, gave the bath in the room while I watched (since I was still feeling a little beaten up) and Steven photographed and videoed the occasion. Harrison cried some and enjoyed some of this process.

Steven and I gave Harrison his first sponge bath when Harrison was 3 days old. He was given a bath after he proceeded to pee all over himself and me during a diaper change that occurred during the middle of one of his feedings. Mommy was in tears during all of this thanks to my hormones. I was worried about his coloring (he looked sooo yellow to me), then he peed on us, and he was upset because he was still hungry. It was a bit of a mess.

The following sponge baths were a success! Everyone enjoyed them.
The first full tub bath took place when Harrison was 24 days old after his cord stump fell off on August 12 and his plastibell fell off on August 4, and it was a bit of a disaster. Steven and I were a little unprepared when we started the process. I think the water was too cold, and we were trying to wash him in the baby tub on our kitchen counter. Again, Harrison was ready for food once we started bathing him, so he was cold and hungry. Mommy and baby were not happy by the end of the bath. Therefore, I decided we were going back to sponge baths. We did the sponge baths a few more times.

I finally decided we could not sponge bathe Harrison forever, so I put my Mommy pants on and we dove in for another try. This time we filled up the baby bathtub first, made sure the water was warm enough, we gave the bath in the bathroom with the door closed to maintain the warmer temperature, and I fed him prior to the bath. Harrison was much more content, and so we are now taking full baths! Yay! Daddy has joined in on the action of giving the baths now instead of just photographing and supervising. :-)
